Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff der Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) wurde erst 1985 von Epler anhand histologischer Merkmale geprägt und grenzt diese Erkrankung als eigene Entität von der Bronchiolitis obliterans ab. Retrospektiv entspricht vermutlich ein größerer Teil der vor 1985 als Bronchiolitis obliterans beschriebenen Erkrankungen einer BOOP. Die Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia wird charakterisiert durch intraluminale Polypenbildung (Granulationsgewebe, auch „Masson bodies“ genannt) der respiratorischen Bronchioli, die in die Alveolarräume einwachsen und diese verlegen. Es resultiert eine restriktive Lungenerkrankung.
