Abstract
The mechanical properties are widely different for different metals. Even for metals of the same crystal structure there is a very wide variation. These differences must be reflected in the movement and arrangement of the dislocations. The distribution and motion of the dislocations have now been studied by the transmission electron microscope technigue (1,2,3,4) for a number of polycrystalline metals, including face centred cubic stainless steel, α-brass, Cu, Au, Ni, Al, body centred cubic Fe and hexagonal Co and Mg.
