Zusammenfassung
In den letzten zwanzig Jahren – vor allem in der ersten Hälfte der ersten Dekade dieses Jahrhunderts – mehrten sich die anglophonen Stimmen, die das Ende der Literatur- und Kulturtheorie entweder heraufbeschwören, begrüßen oder bedauern. Die Titel der einschlägigen Texte lauten entsprechend After Theory, Reading After Theory, The Future of Theory oder Criticism, Theory and Anti-Theory. Im Folgenden möchte ich diese Debatte in ihren Konturen nachzeichnen und kommentieren, wobei ich teilweise recht ausführlich zitieren werde, allein um den tone of resentment gegenüber jeglicher theoretischer Reflexion oder Abstraktion anschaulich zu machen, der aus manchen der einschlägigen Texte spricht.
