Abstract
Videogames are a popular pastime for a majority of young people. In addition to the joy they bring to most players, they also entail problematic consequences for some of them. Two of these problematic aspects are outlined in this article: the addictive potential of computer games as well as the problematic business models of these games, often including gambling mechanics. Based on the author’s professional experience, ways to support affected families in dealing with problematic gaming are elaborated. In addition, the need to establish the issue in the training of social work professionals is emphasized.
