Zypern hat die Erteilung des internationalen finanziellen Beistands am 25. Juni 2012 beantragt. Im Anschluss daran wurde das erste Stabilitätsprogramm eingeführt, welches völlig durch den ESM organisiert wurde, mit einer geringen Beteiligung des IWF.
