Zusammenfassung
Im Oktober 2016 – lange vor Beginn des Bundeswahlkampfes – appellierte Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel an alle Parteien, auf die Nutzung von Social Bots im Bundestagswahlkampf zu verzichten. Dem widersprach letztendlich nur die Alternative für Deutschland [AfD], wenngleich die Partei diese Aussage später wieder relativierte. So widmet sich dieser Beitrag der Frage, ob und in welchem politischen beziehungsweise thematischen Umfeld Bots im Zuge des Bundestagswahlkampfs auf Twitter eingesetzt wurden. Die Identifikation von potentiellen Bot-Twitter-Accounts erfolgt anhand eines zweistufigen Verfahrens: einem einfachen Nahduplikat-Erkennungsalgorithmus mit einer nachgelagerten manuellen qualitativen Analyse zufällig ausgewählter Tweets. Zwar liefern die Ergebnisse wenig Indizien für umfangreiche Maßnahmen zur Beeinflussung des Wahlausgangs durch Political Bots, offenbaren aber zumindest den Versuch der Einflussnahme durch verschiedene Akteure. So fanden sich zum Beispiel potentielle Bot-Accounts im AfD-nahen Spektrum und offensichtliche Bot-Aktivitäten mit Wahlwerbung durch die Freien Wähler.
