Abstract
To create a basis for the empirical analysis of the relationship between the media and accountability in the countries under study, several factors have to be taken into account. The description of the historical and political background (Chapter 2) as well as characteristics of the media systems in the countries under study (Chapter 3) provided a necessary basis for this analysis. Nonetheless, the framework has to be amended by additional considerations, drawing on theories primarily from political and communication science.
