Abstract

The first question to ask before embarking on efforts to develop improved, more energy-efficient designs in the future is to consider how and why they varied between regions in the past. To answer this question, this chapter will review the diverse range of traditional dwellings found in the different parts of Serbia. The following discussion of folk architecture in Serbia makes use of the historical-interpretative method. The results of the summary in turn helped in selecting the locations for the detailed evaluations discussed later in this book.
