Die Souveränitätsfrage als Instrument der Ausgrenzung

Zusammenfassung

Britische RechtspopulistInnen konnten durch Opposition gegen Einwanderung immer wieder kurzfristig erfolgreich die politische Stimmung im Vereinigten Königreich für sich nutzen. In den 1960er Jahren waren es die ZuwanderInnen aus den karibischen, afrikanischen und asiatischen Ländern, die zum Politikum wurden. Der rechtsradikale Rand hatte aber längerfristig keine Chance, sich politisch zu etablieren.

Der Brexit hat die Einwanderungsfrage mit der Frage nach der politischen Souveränität des Vereinigten Königreiches verbunden. Zeitweilig gelang es der United Kingdom Independence Party, über den rechtsradikalen Rand des politischen Spektrums hinaus Wählerinnen und Wähler an sich zu binden und Wahlerfolge (insbesondere bei der Europawahl 2014) zu erzielen. Der größte Erfolg für UKIP war das Ergebnis des Brexit-Referendums, das das Ende der EU-Mitgliedschaft des Vereinigten Königreiches herbeiführte. In der Folge versank UKIP jedoch in der Bedeutungslosigkeit. Der Populismus bemächtigte sich der beiden großen Parteien: Labour und Conservatives.
