Zusammenfassung
Der Ausgang des Brexit-Referendums war für die Mehrheit der Nordiren ein Schock, denn fast 56 Prozent der Teilnehmer am Referendum hatten am 23. Juni 2017 für einen Verbleib des Vereinigten Königreichs in der Europäischen Union gestimmt. Nordirland hatte allen Grund dazu, da die EU eine wichtige Rolle für den Friedensprozess in Nordirland und darüber hinaus spielte. Im Rahmen der PEACE I-IV-Programme erhält Nordirland seit 1995 Fördermittel, die für Infrastrukturprojekte in Nordirland und Projekte eingesetzt wurden, die die Versöhnung zwischen den beiden Bevölkerungsgruppen zum Ziel hatte.
