Zusammenfassung

A short critical review of the logistics performance is made following two steps: using the deductive approach, the state of development of logistics as a discipline and its scope are compared. Following the example of green surface freight and using the inductive approach, limitations of the existing logistics performance concept are shown. Both steps should underline the need to set a systematic and interdisciplinary theoretical framework and to establish methods of logistical performance measurement in order to cope with the growing complexity of business in the era of digitalization and sustainability.
