Die Deklamation vieler Unternehmen „Unsere Mitarbeiter sind unser größtes Kapital!“ mag bisweilen etwas unglaubwürdig klingen. Im Profifußball ist das anders. Nach Angaben der Deutschen Fußballliga investierten Vereine der ersten deutschen Bundesliga in der Saison 2014/2015 knapp 40% ihres Umsatzes direkt in die Gehälter der Spieler (Deutsche Fußballliga, 2016).
