Zusammenfassung

Es scheint die „ewige Wiederkehr des Gleichen“ zu sein. In den achtziger Jahren dieses Jahrhunderts wird eine Diskussion über Moral wiederbelebt, die bereits jeweils am Ausgang der vergangenen Jahrhunderte geführt worden ist. Die kommunitaristische Herausforderung, wie sich die gegenwärtige moralische Bewegung in den Vereinigten Staaten selbst bezeichnet, richtet sich gegen den herrschenden Zeitgeist, der im ungehemmten Enrichissez-vous einer deregulierten Laissez-faire- Ökonomie ebenso zum Ausdruck kommt wie in den spielerischen Ästhetizismen einer postmodernen Kultur oder in der ökonomischen Potenz und im ästhetischen Konsum der dominanten Figur dieses Jahrzehnts, dem Yuppie.
