Zusammenfassung

Von Beginn seiner Forschung an konzentrierte sich Émile Durkheim (1858-1917) auf das Problem der sozialen Ordnung und auf die Frage nach dem inneren Zusammenhalt einer Gesellschaft. Dieses Interesse, das ihn mit der älteren und modernen Sozialphilosophie verbindet, nimmt in seinem Denken jedoch eine spezifisch moderne soziologische Wendung: Wie ist die Aufrechterhaltung einer geregelten Sozialordnung mit individueller Freiheit und mit persönlicher Autonomie zu vereinbaren? Welches sind die Kräfte, Faktoren und Tendenzen, die die Individuen in eine moderne Gesellschaft integrieren? Die Suche nach dem sozialen Band (le lien social) führt ihn zur Arbeitsteilung: „Die Frage, die am Anfang dieser Arbeit stand, war die nach den Beziehungen zwischen der individuellen Persönlichkeit und der sozialen Solidarität. Wie geht es zu, dass das Individuum, obgleich es immer autonomer wird, immer mehr von der Gesellschaft abhängt? Wie kann es zu gleicher Zeit persönlicher und solidarischer sein? […] Uns schien, dass die Auflösung dieser scheinbaren Antinomie einer Veränderung der sozialen Solidarität geschuldet ist, die wir der immer stärkeren Arbeitsteilung verdanken“ (1902, S.
