Zusammenfassung

Der Kultivierungsansatz untersucht den langfristigen Einfluss des Fernsehens auf die Realitätsvorstellungen und Einstellungen der Rezipientinnen und Rezipienten. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden zunächst die Grundannahmen des Ansatzes skizziert und dann ein Überblick über den Forschungsstand zu Kultivierungseffekten im Gesundheitsbereich gegeben. Dabei wird unterschieden nach Studien zum Ärztebild, zu Ernährung und Körperbild, zu Genuss- bzw. Suchtmitteln und zu Krankheiten.

    Die zentrale Rolle des Fernsehens im Gesundheitsbereich zeigt sich auch in der Tatsache, dass dieses gemeinsam mit Ärztinnen und Ärzten um Platz 1 der Quellen für Gesundheitsinformationen konkurriert (Chory-Assad und Tamborini, 2003; Gerbner et al. 1982b).

    Physiologische Wirkungen, die sich einzig durch die Dauer des Fernsehkonsums, nicht aber durch die Fernsehinhalte erklären lassen (wie z. B. der Zusammenhang von hohem Fernsehkonsum und Adipositas oder anderen Krankheiten, (z. B. Grontved und Hu 2011), sind folglich nicht als Kultivierungseffekte zu begreifen.
