Zusammenfassung
Infektionen und metastatische Tumorstreuung nach Operationen sind häufig auftretende Komplikationen, die nur z. T. dem durchgeführten Eingriff oder der zugrundeliegenden Erkrankung anzulasten sind. In vielen Fällen liegt eine Schwächung der Immunabwehr vor, die sich durch erhöhte Infektionsgefährdung und verstärktes postoperatives Tumorwachstum auswirkt. Hier stellt sich die Frage, ob nicht ein Teil dieser Komplikationen vermeidbar ist, und zwar vermeidbar in dem Sinn, daß potentiell schädliche Maßnahmen durch günstigere ersetzt werden könnten. Die zunehmende Häufigkeit von nosokomialen Septikämien, in die eine beträchtliche Zahl postoperativ erworbener Infektionen einmündet, spricht eine deutliche Sprache.
