Structure Determination of a Norbornane-Norbornene-Fused Pentacyclic Isoxazoline by NMR Spectroscopy

Abstract

On attempting the preparation of 3-phenylisoxazoline by retro Diels-Alder reaction of the norbornene fused isoxazo-line 1, the formation of a further compound besides the anticipated1 product 2 was observed.2 The by-product proved to be the pentacyclic compound 3.
