Abstract
Deuterium NMR absorption spectra of a nematic liquid crystal confined in spherical and cylindrical cavities with the star-like distribution of nematic directors are studied theoretically. We show the effect of motional narrowing caused by the translational diffusion of nematic molecules. A random jump isotropic diffusion model is used to simulate translational diffusion. From the NMR spectra the information on the magnitude of diffusion and on the liquid crystal structure is obtained.
