Abstract
During the past 25 years a number of modalities have been developed for the treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). In addition to conventional hemodialysis (HD) and transplantation, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and hemofiltration (HF) have become alternatives for the treatment of ESRD. HF has become particularly popular in Europe. The purpose of this chapter is to identify those types of patients who might be best suited for chronic HF.
