Zusammenfassung

Das Links/Rechts-Schema ist ein effizienter Mechanismus der Vereinfachung komplexer politischer Sachverhalte durch symbolische Generalisierungl. Die Herausbildung solcher abstrakter Mechanismen ist vor allem in differenzierten politischen Systemen ein funktionales Erfordernis zur Orientierung und Kommunikation der Bürger in der politischen Welt. Das Links/Rechts-Schema hat sich vorwiegend in den westeuropäischen Demokratien als ein politischer Code mit diesen Funktionen institutionalisiert, während in den Vereinigten Staaten das Liberal/Konservativ-Schema als das funktionale Äquivalent angesehen werden kann.
