Addition von Boranen an Olefine Boran 2 addiert ohne katalytische Aktivierung an C-C-Doppelbindungen. Diese Reaktion, die von H. C. Brown entdeckt1) und umfassend untersucht wurde, wird als Hydroborierung 2–5) bezeichnet; sie ermöglicht die regioselektive und stereospezifische Funktionalisierung von Alkenen 1.
