Probleme biologischer Orientierung der Soziologie

Zusammenfassung

Kommt in den Sozialwissenschaften die Rede auf die Biologie, dann wird meist nur vom Mißbrauch gesprochen. Gerade in Deutschland ist das zunächst einmal sehr verständlich. Zwar gab es Mißverständnisse von Biologie in vielen Ländern, auch darauf gründende Einflüsse auf das gesellschaftliche Denken (für die Vereinigten Staaten siehe Näheres bei Hofstadter, 1955; Russett, 1976. Für Großbritannien siehe z. B. Halliday, 1968), doch nirgendwo mehr als bei uns wurde Biologie so sehr politisch strapaziert, nämlich zur scheinwissenschaftlichen Begründung von Diskriminierung und Verbrechen (siehe Marten, 1983). Daß viele der furchtbaren Untaten in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus, besonders die Ermordung von Millionen Juden und anderen Menschen, rassistisch begründet wurden, hindert uns daran, unbefangen menschliches Handeln mit biologischen Faktoren zu verbinden. Wir Wissenschaftler müssen zudem mit der Tatsache fertig werden, daß rassistisches Denken nicht zuletzt von Wissenschaftlern selbst entwickelt und propagiert worden ist, von Sozialwissenschaftlern, sogar von Biologen.
