Abstract
Ultrasound (US) guidance is recommended in the case of central and deep peripheral vein venipuncture. Evidences have showed a reduced risk of immediate and long-term complications using US in respect to “landmark techniques.” In this chapter we briefly review the advantages of US applied to vein cannulation; basic principles of echo-anatomy of neck, chest, and arm veins; as well as the technique of US venipuncture. Principal approaches are also here described.
