Abstract
Cancer pain that is refractory to medical management can be exceedingly difficult to treat. Various surgical options exist including lesioning procedures and neuromodulation techniques. For intractable cancer-related pain that is neuropathic or even nociceptive in origin and localized to a specific dermatomal or focal region, peripheral nerve stimulation and subcutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation may provide additional benefit for patients. This review discusses potential indications for such forms of therapy as well as examples of technical approaches for each.
