Essential Fatty Acids in Pain Management

Abstract

Essential fatty acids may play a role in reducing pain related to inflammation. There is modest evidence of benefit in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. There is no evidence of benefit in patients with osteoarthritis. However, robust clinical data is lacking. Presented is mechanism of action, pain-related indications, contraindications, adverse effects, drug-drug interactions and dosing recommendations for essential fatty acids with regard to pain management.
