Abstract
Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid angioplasty and stenting are widely performed revascularization procedures for the prevention of future stroke secondary to moderate to severe atherosclerotic carotid artery disease. Both procedures have been the focus of numerous prospective trials that have aimed to explore the safety and efficacy of these techniques. In this chapter we explore the methods and results of these trials. We provide current recommendations for treatment of carotid atherosclerotic disease based on the most recent trial evidence.
