Sensuous Learning for Practical Judgment in Professional Practice

Part of the book series: Palgrave Studies in Business, Arts and Humanities ((PSBAH))

Abstract

The authors examine art-based workshops that are designed and facilitated by Danish choir conductor Peter Hanke, aimed at improving the leadership skills of business managers. The participants are taught the basics of conducting, invited to conduct a small professional choir, and receive feedback on their performance. The process of learning leadership is based on two mechanisms: analogically mediated inquiry and embodied performance. Participants also learn to view leadership as a balancing act between traditional, authoritative forms of leadership and new egalitarian, post-heroic forms.
