Abstract

Preoperative evaluation of micronutrient and vitamin levels prior to and following bariatric surgery is of paramount importance. A thorough history and physical examination can provide the necessary information required to narrow one’s differential diagnosis regarding a possible micronutrient and vitamin deficiency. Laboratory evaluation is utilized to confirm suspicions regarding a specific micronutrient and vitamin deficiency.
