Abstract
There are a multitude of different surgical techniques and prosthetic materials used in ventral hernia repair. As a general surgeon, it can be difficult to select the appropriate operative plan for each patient. Although surgeon experience, preference, and training should factor into any operative plan, this chapter outlines an evidence-based approach to ventral herniorrhaphy. In this chapter, we will discuss patient pre-habilitation, patient risk factors/staging system, and outline surgical options for each ventral hernia stage.
