Abstract
Diverticulitis is a common condition encountered in the emergency department and outpatient setting and has classically been treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics, in addition to supportive care measures. Recent literature has led to a paradigm shift in the mainstay of treatment for uncomplicated diverticulitis. In fact, the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and several European nations have begun to recognize that antibiotics may not be necessary for successful management of uncomplicated diverticulitis in specific patient populations.
