Abstract

Gastric tubes are common methods of enteral access in the chronically malnourished, neurologically injured, and those at risk for aspiration. The acute care provider frequently sees complications from these devices, including dislodgment, obstruction, infection, and bleeding. Management of these complications frequently allows patients to return home or to their chronic care facilities, sparing hospital admission.
