Abstract
Most immunocompromised patients presenting to the emergency department with abdominal pain will require advanced imaging. In this patient population, the history and physical exam can be misleading and not accurately represent ongoing serious intra-abdominal pathology. Computed tomography with intravenous contrast will reveal most life-threatening etiologies of abdominal pain in these patients; however patients with nondiagnostic imaging who appear ill should be observed or admitted for consideration of further testing such as magnetic resonance imaging.
