What Are the Risks of Doppler Ultrasound in Pregnancy?

Abstract

Ultrasound is safe and considered the imaging modality of choice pregnant patients. Compared to standard B-mode and M-mode ultrasound waves, Doppler waves require higher acoustic output and confer a higher theoretical risk of thermal damage to fetal tissue. B-mode and M-mode ultrasound waves are recommended over Doppler waves for fetal assessment whenever possible.
