Abstract
Intracorneal ring segments (ICRS) are small devices made of synthetic material that are implanted in the deep of the corneal stroma in order to induce a change in the morphology and in the refractive power of the cornea and are mainly use for the treatment of corneal ectatic disorders. Nowadays the more safety surgical technic to create the corneal tunnels where ICRS will be implanted is by means of the femtosecond laser. Most of the scientific works published in the literature agreed that ICRS are able to reduce between 3 and 5 diopters of corneal power and reduce the asymmetric corneal aberrations in keratoconus patients. ICRS is a safe, reversible procedure with minimal reported complications. New technologies that help to improve the predictability of the implantation nomograms will bring better outcomes when implanting ICRS for the treatment of keratoconus patients.
