Abstract

In this research, we focused on biofeedback technology to enhance perception of excitement during video viewing. This technology realizes viewers their emotion by presenting thermal stimuli at the moment they changed their emotion. Thermal stimulus was used as biofeedback. Biofeedback device generated thermal stimuli at the moment that SCR signals were observed. The thermal stimulus was designed to raise the skin temperature on the left forearm of the viewer from 33 °C to 36 °C at the rate of 0.2 °C/sec.

In the experiment, eight college students viewed three kinds of videos. After viewing of the videos, a questionnaire survey was applied to investigate whether or not perception of excitement was enhanced when stimuli were presented compared with normal condition. As a result of subjective responses, the system raised their stress levels, however failed to raise viewers excitement promptly.
