Abstract
Ceramics are one of the most visible and readily identifiable material means of examining British engagement with South and Central America during and after the Wars of Independence in the second and third decades of the nineteenth century. However, despite the significance of Chile as an important trade market for British exports, including ceramics, the archaeological signature of this trade is still poorly understood. The authors offer a preliminary overview of post-independence British ceramics from Chilean archaeological sites, placing the archaeological evidence in both regional and international context.
