Abstract

Children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) commonly have associated neurological disorders including seizures and motor abnormalities. People with ASD are also susceptible to common neurological problems, such as headache, which may go undiagnosed due to limited communication skills. Increases in irritability, aggression, or self-injurious behavior that prompt office visits to the neurologist or other specialists are often signs of underlying medical problems in people who are nonverbal or have limited verbal skills.
