Abstract
Metastases to the breast and axilla are rare and account for approximately 2% of all mammary malignancies. The first reported case of extra-mammary breast metastasis occurred in 1903, and case reports and reviews published in the English-language literature have reported fewer than 500 cases of metastasis to the breast. The most common metastatic lesion to involve the breast is a metastasis from a contralateral mammary cancer; however, reported primary tumors metastasizing to the breast include carcinoma from the lung, gastrointestinal, or genitourinary tract, and melanoma. The diagnosis of metastasis to the breast from extramammary malignancies is important for patient management. The prognosis is generally poor as most patients have widely disseminated disease.
