Abstract
Strategies have been applied to encourage recycling behavior, which is the most participative component of the integrated waste management, where the citizens are the key to ensure the success of a separate waste collection system. A short review of the most studied variables and factors involved in the study of consumption and recycling behavior is made in this chapter. At the end of the chapter are presented several limitations of existing recycling behavior models which need to be solved and which criteria should be used to measure the efficacy and efficiency of interventions used to change behavior. The urgent need to understand the recycling phenomena is notorious to address the environmental problem of waste and to increase recycling, promoting the circular economy.
