Abstract
Former First Lady, Michelle Obama and I have a direct connection; we both have first-hand knowledge of a parent who battled multiple sclerosis (MS). This parent set examples of resilience on a daily basis through their constant striving to nurture and contribute to family and community. This essay highlights the struggle with MS as a motivator to our parenting style and avenues of our civic engagement.
