Abstract

A problem of the quark model was connected with the Pauli principle for the wave functions of the baryons, e.g. for the Ω-baryon. To solve this problem, William Bardeen, Fritzsch and Gell-Mann introduced in 1972 a new threefold quantum number for the quarks, which they described as the “colors” of the quarks.
