Abstract
Patients diagnosed with medically refractory chronic migraines represent a challenging population to offer symptomatic improvement. However, if the symptoms are determined to be caused by a peripheral nerve, decompression surgery has been found to obtain complete resolution. Though any nerve around the head and neck could cause either neuralgia or be a trigger for migraines, the four common nerves have been found to be the supraorbital nerve, zygomaticotemporal nerve, greater occipital nerve, and ethmoidal nerves innervating the nasal septum. Surgical techniques have evolved to address the specific areas. Migraine surgery is an evolving field that is offering treatments option for patients that suffer from a debilitating condition.
