Abstract
The theory of NMR line shapes for systems of coupled nuclei undergoing any type of exchange is exposed, with the focus on the intermolecular processes. The issue of molecular symmetry in intermolecular exchange is addressed. The formalism is illustrated by a number of simple examples, where explicit forms of the exchange superoperators are presented.
