Abstract
This chapter highlights the education of African American women during a time when it was rare for them to receive an education. The chapter speaks of Myrtilla Miner, a White abolitionist, who had a mission to open a school for formerly enslaved girls and women. Met with much opposition, Miner’s fight for the establishment of a school and its eventual impact is chronicled.
