Abstract

Patients present to emergency departments with eye complaints frequently, accounting for approximately 1–2% of all ED visits. Eye emergencies can be categorized into three categories: the red eye, the painful eye, and those with associated vision loss. This chapter will focus mainly on the eyelid and common disorders emergency physicians need to be able to diagnose and treat upon their presentation. Patient presenting signs and symptoms, evaluation, treatment, and disposition for stye, chalazion, blepharitis, dacryocystitis, and ectropion are discussed in detail.
