Abstract
We struggle through our careers much as the struggle of the classic hero/heroine in mythology. We fall from grace, face insurmountable odds and multiple challenges, meet several friends along our journey, and, in the end, we find our true selves. In that classic progression, one of the most important roles is that of the wise guardian and guide who helps put the protagonist on the right path, with the tools they need to reach their goal. In much the same way, a surgeon must always find a mentor, or several, to guide them in their postgraduate lives.
