Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Procedures

Abstract

ATX-101, deoxycholic acid injection (DCA), is indicated for cosmetic reduction of moderate to severe submental fat. It works by inducing adipocytolysis and recruitment of neutrophils, macrophages, and fibroblasts, leading to long-lasting fat reduction and mild improvement in skin laxity through neocollagenesis. Procedure-specific side effects, which include submental alopecia, marginal mandibular nerve injury, and dysphagia, are both mild and transient. ATX-101 offers a pharmacologic, minimally invasive alternative to liposuction and other invasive surgical techniques in the treatment/reduction of undesired submental fat and improvement in submental profile.
