Abstract

Degenerative joint disease is characterized in joint structure changes leading to functional failure. Several treatment options are available in treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Most important factor in premature osteoarthritis is initial trauma. Joint unloading concept has become more popular recently especially in younger patients. Unicompartmental knee unloading device AtlasĀ® is a new tool in treating medial knee osteoarthritis. Clinical scores provide proof that this treatment provides good results comparable to high tibial osteotomy. Other devices such as iliotibial spoon can overload knee compartments.
