Abstract
Neuraxial techniques (e.g., spinals and epidurals) are commonly used for labor analgesia and cesarean deliveries; however, the minimum safe platelet count for their placement is not known. This information is of interest given that thrombocytopenia complicates as many as 10% of pregnancies. This case describes a commonly encountered scenario and illustrates some of the considerations involved in deciding optimal, safe care.
