Abstract

Cicatricial ectropion is described with emphasis on pathogenesis, surgical procedures, and complications. The pathogenesis of cicatricial ectropion includes trauma, skin diseases, thermal and chemical injuries, and iatrogenic causes, such as excessive skin removal in lower blepharoplasty. Factors that may be present in cicatricial ectropion include vertical skin shortage or contracture and horizontal lid laxity. The surgeon should determine which of these factors needs correction and then select from the following surgical options.
